Mountain Lake RemediationSan Francisco, CAClient: Kennedy Jenks / The Presidio TrustLocated in the Presidio of San Francisco, Mountain Lake is one of the only natural lakes located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The Lake has been receiving run-off from the adjacent Highway 1, since the highways construction. This has resulted in elevated levels of hydrocarbons and metals, most notably Lead & Diesel.
DMS conducted a Treatability Study to evaluate technologies for removing and dewatering sediments. This entailed a Vibracore program for collection of sediments from the pond for sediment characterization and a bench scale study on the conditioning of sediments to promote dewatering. The Remedial Action Plan developed for the pond was the removal of impacted sediments. Sediment removal was accomplished using the DMS Moray hydraulic dredge; sediment was pumped to a dewatering pad located north of the Lake. Sediment dewatering or solidification was required in conjunction with the removal for management or disposal of the sediments. Future remediation efforts will include the removal of contaminated sediments from the North Arm of the lake as well as a more traditional wetland remediation effort in the East Arm that will include Tree and Sediment removal. |
