Turbidity Management & Water Quality MonitoringManaging sediment plumes during dredging operations is often required by State agencies and environmental oversight committees. Turbidity curtain is deployed to mitigate the propagation of sediment throughout the body of water by creating a physical impermeable or semipermeable barrier. The hydrodynamic conditions for every management situtation are unique to the site and require a unique plan for deployment. DMS has years of experience in developing effective strategies to completely contain sediment plumes as well as monitor their density via water quality data telemetry.
DMS has performed water quality studies throughout the San Francisco Bay and Delta regions. The objectives of the studies have ranged from water quality monitoring for permit compliance to demonstrating the effectiveness of a treatment process. Environmental conditions are monitored from remote data collection platforms and the information is posted to a webpage for stakeholders to review. DMS has the experience and equipment to monitor a wide array of parameters simultaneously with the ability to integrate the process and provide performance data from different operational units. Field equipment used is designed for monitoring of pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, turbidity, temperature, depth and conductivity simultaneously and in real time. We have designed water quality programs to ask specific questions about the impacts of dredging projects on the surrounding aquatic environment or the effectiveness of a mitigation measure. DMS worked with companies on the Napa River, providing Turbidity Management and support with the installation of a turbidity curtain and monitoring TSS levels in the river during construction activity. DMS understands the need to maintain high standards for compliance with regulatory permitting in all water quality criteria projects. We can recommend and implement procedures to comply with regulations, provide environmental measurements and analysis, as well as marine wave and tide analysis. |
